When it comes to marketing these days, companies can ill afford to ignore the power and popularity of social media. According to Forbes.com, while marketing in the social media arena is altogether different than traditional marketing, companies have a greater ability to make deeper connections with their existing or prospective customers through social media than through any other medium. We came across a blog post about Pinterest for businesses that featured Sony’s unique use of its Pinterest boards to effectively market its brand. But Sony isn’t the only company with a Pinterest success story. Here are 4 of our favorites: |
Lowe’s – This DIY supply giant is all about giving people the belief and the tools necessary to tackle home improvement by themselves. If you’re on a home makeover mission, they want to empower you to complete that mission. Their website features a Creative Ideas section with a variety of project possibilities. If you see a project you want to tackle down the road or share with others, the Pinterest Pin It button is right there for you to click. The Pin It button also helps Lowe’s track which items are most popular among pinners. Those items are then featured on Lowe’s website, in their emails, on their Facebook page, and in other social mediums.
Kraft Foods – If there’s one thing pinners love to pin, it’s recipes. Kraft’s goal is to help people easily make and share everyday meals, and to that end they joined Pinterest at the beginning of 2012 because that’s where their target audience was looking for recipes and meal ideas. Seeing what foods are most often pinned helps Kraft keep abreast of the latest food trends. They also discovered that lots of people look for recipes during the holidays, so they created a Christmas Recipes board that has become a huge hit.
The Container Store – This outfit sells 10,000 products to help customers optimize their storage and organization, and they have locations across the country. Pinners love to share items that save space and time, so much so that Pinterest was the top social media source of referral traffic to ContainerStore.com. And this was before The Container Store even had a Pinterest Profile! Now they have a Top Pinned category on their website and Pinterest promotions on their homepage, in their catalogs and in their stores.
Elle Magazine – With 21 million readers in 60 countries, Elle is the top fashion brand in the world. Nowhere are trends more closely watched and product launches more eagerly anticipated than in the fashion world. Each look that comes down the runway during fall and spring fashion shows is pinned live on Elle’s Runway Trends board. With over 16,000 re-pins and almost 4,000 likes during one event alone, designers must surely be big fans of Elle’s Pinterest presence.
